Job Overview

An opportunity has become available for a high-calibre Ultra-Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver to transport and distribute goods safely and efficiently to various clients within the Distell Cape Town contract. The successful candidate will have proven ultra-heavy vehicle experience, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to operate in a demanding distribution environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare vehicles for trips and operate ultra-heavy motor vehicles in a safe and compliant manner
• Load, transport, and offload goods according to operational and safety standards
• Ensure loads are secure and not overloaded in accordance with the National Road Traffic Act
• Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report defects or emergencies promptly
• Operate or oversee offloading equipment where required
• Open and close tarpaulins where applicable
• Accurately complete all trip, delivery, and compliance documentation
• Maintain high housekeeping standards for vehicles, uniform, and PPE
• Adhere strictly to SOPs, safety rules, and company procedures
• Follow all reasonable instructions from the Supervisor
• Work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required
• Interact with customers in a professional and efficient manner

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric / Senior Certificate
• Grade 10 literacy level (verbally and numerically literate)
• Valid Code EC driver’s licence
• Valid PrDP (DGP – Dangerous Goods Permit)
• Minimum 3 years’ experience driving an ultra-heavy motor vehicle
• Must be 25 years of age or older
• Clean driving record and clear criminal record
• Medically fit and safety focused

• Defensive driving techniques
• Knowledge of vehicle components and operating systems
• Emergency and defect reporting procedures
• Vehicle inspection processes and fire extinguisher operation
• Vehicle loading techniques
• Cost-effective and fuel-efficient driving practices

Assessments & Compliance

The successful candidate must successfully complete:

• Medical evaluation
• USCS training modules
• Company induction processes
• Practical driving evaluation
• Criminal record verification
