Industry Insight (Salesman Drivers in SA)
Salesman drivers are some of the highest-earning Code 10 drivers when performance bonuses are included.
Here’s how the game really works:
- Your income can increase based on sales performance, not just driving
- Companies look for drivers who can sell, not just deliver
- Relationship-building with shop owners is what keeps routes profitable
In South Africa, this role is big in:
- Bakeries (like Premier, Albany, etc.)
- FMCG brands (snacks, beverages, dairy)
Pro Tip
To stand out, your CV should clearly highlight:
- Any sales targets achieved
- Experience dealing with customers directly
- Cash handling and route sales experience
If you just show “driver experience” without sales, you’ll be overlooked.
