Job Overview

Unitrans is seeking an experienced Petroleum Tanker Driver to join its Petroleum Division under the Shell East London contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe transportation of petroleum products using ultra-heavy vehicles while ensuring compliance with road safety regulations, dangerous goods requirements, and company operational standards.

This role is ideal for professional Code 14 drivers with proven tanker experience and a strong commitment to safety, compliance, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare vehicles and equipment before commencing each trip.
• Safely operate ultra-heavy motor vehicles with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) or gross combination mass (GCM) exceeding 25 000kg.
• Conduct comprehensive pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Ensure the vehicle remains roadworthy throughout the journey.
• Transport petroleum products safely and efficiently according to company procedures and legal requirements.
• Handle and manage all transport documentation from dispatch through to customer delivery and return to the distribution centre.
• Account for all products transported and ensure accurate delivery records.
• Adhere to dangerous goods transportation regulations and safety procedures.
• Report vehicle defects, incidents, or operational concerns immediately.
• Follow instructions issued by supervisors and operational management.
• Work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and extended hours when required.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric) / NQF Level 4 qualification.
• Grade 10 / NQF Level 2 may be considered where applicable.
• Valid Code 14 (EC) Driver’s Licence.
• Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
• Dangerous Goods (DG) certification and PrDP "D" endorsement where required.
• Minimum of 3 years' petroleum tanker driving experience.
• Safe driving record.
• Clear criminal record.
• Sound knowledge of road transport legislation and dangerous goods regulations.
