Job Overview
Unitrans is seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Dispatch Supervisor to oversee daily dispatch operations within a high-volume transport environment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring efficient vehicle utilisation, accurate trip recording, driver compliance, and on-time deliveries while maintaining strict adherence to safety, quality, and operational standards.
This role suits an experienced transport professional who understands the realities of South African logistics operations, including breakdowns, client pressure, compliance requirements, and fleet coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and track the real-time position of all vehicles
- Record vehicle movements and trips on the Fleet Utilisation Report
- Capture and maintain accurate data for every trip
- Liaise with customers regarding delivery schedules, stock levels, and breakdowns
- Ensure drivers and staff comply with PPE requirements at all times
- Conduct alcohol testing for all staff entering the premises prior to duty
- Issue and record toll cards and collect toll fee receipts
- Complete all dispatch documentation, including:
- Trip sheets
- Driving and rest hours
- Sleep logs
- Record and report abnormal routes or deviations
- Respond to customer and internal queries regarding collections and deliveries
- Attend depot operations meetings
- Coordinate with service providers on vehicle repairs and maintenance
- Complete defect reports and follow up on vehicle issues
- Ensure driver and vehicle compliance with company policies
- Enforce Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) requirements
- Comply with the Company’s Code of Conduct, policies, and procedures
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or Advanced Certificate in Logistics, Transport Management, or similar (or studying towards – advantageous)
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the transport industry in a supervisory role
- Strong operational dispatch experience
- Working knowledge of:
- 8-ton rigid trucks
- Truck tractors and trailers
- Refrigerated units
- Tail lifts
- Valid Code 14 driver’s licence (advantageous, not compulsory)
