Job Description

Unitrans is looking for an experienced and professional Bus Driver to transport passengers safely on scheduled routes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating the bus safely, ensuring passengers arrive at their destinations on time, conducting vehicle inspections and complying with company policies, road traffic regulations and passenger transport safety requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Relevant job-specific training.
• Appropriate Public Passenger Driving Licence.
• Valid driver's licence in the required categories, including CE-G, CE-PG or C-G.
• At least 5 years of experience in a similar bus or passenger transport driving position.
• Strong knowledge of defensive and preventive driving techniques.
• Good understanding of road traffic laws and regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Safely transporting passengers on scheduled routes.
• Ensuring passengers arrive safely and on time.
• Following all prescribed routes and authorised stops.
• Conducting vehicle inspections before starting a journey.
• Recording and reporting vehicle defects or malfunctions.
• Ensuring defects are reported and resolved before operating an unsafe vehicle.
• Completing logbooks and maintaining accurate driving records.
• Registering passengers for trips where required.
• Ensuring the bus is refuelled and kept clean.
• Reporting incidents, accidents, near misses and property damage immediately.
• Following all Unitrans safety procedures, policies and regulations.
• Participating in required safety meetings and training.
• Adhering to traffic laws, road signs and speed limits.
• Maintaining professional and positive customer service.
• Avoiding unauthorised route deviations.
• Making stops only at authorised locations.
• Ensuring the vehicle keys are secured when leaving the vehicle.
• Using wheel chocks when parking, where required.
• Ensuring the driver and passengers use seat belts where applicable.
• Taking responsibility for the safe use and condition of the vehicle.
• Reporting vehicle damage to management or the supervisor.
• Complying with scheduled collection and passenger transport times.
