Job Description
Unitrans is looking for an experienced and professional Bus Driver to join its Mega Bus operations in Virginia, Free State. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting passengers safely and efficiently along scheduled routes while complying with all road traffic regulations, company policies and safety procedures.
The role requires a highly responsible driver with strong defensive and preventive driving skills, a commitment to passenger safety and the ability to provide professional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport passengers along approved and scheduled routes.
- Ensure passengers arrive safely and on time.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report any defects or malfunctions.
- Record vehicle defects and ensure they are reported to the relevant supervisor.
- Complete logbooks and other required documentation accurately.
- Register passengers during trips where required.
- Ensure the bus is kept clean, properly fuelled and in good operating condition.
- Comply with all traffic laws, road signs and speed limits.
- Follow Unitrans passenger transport rules, procedures and company policies.
- Report accidents, incidents, near misses and property damage immediately.
- Attend required safety meetings, training sessions and driver discussions.
- Follow authorised routes and stops at approved locations only.
- Ensure vehicle keys are properly controlled when the vehicle is unattended.
- Use wheel chocks and other required safety measures when parking.
- Ensure the driver and passengers comply with seat belt requirements.
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude towards passengers and customers.
- Report any damage or issues involving the vehicle to management.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 qualification.
- Relevant job-specific driver training.
- Appropriate Public Passenger Driving Licence (PG).
- Valid driver's licence in the required categories, including CE-G, CE-PG or C-G.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Bus Driver or in a similar passenger transport position.
- Strong knowledge of defensive and preventive driving techniques.
- Good understanding of road traffic laws and regulations.
- Commitment to passenger safety and safe driving practices.
