Unitrans is seeking professional and experienced Passenger Bus Drivers for its Mega Bus operations in Cape Town. This role involves transporting passengers on scheduled and tourism routes, ensuring safety, punctuality, and exceptional customer service at all times.
Job Purpose
To safely transport passengers on scheduled and tourism routes, complying with traffic legislation, company policies, and customer safety standards, while maintaining a professional image and high service quality.
Minimum Requirements
- Valid Code EC or EC1 (0,4) driver’s licence with PrDP (minimum 3 years)
- Minimum Grade 8 qualification
- At least 3 years’ coach/bus driving experience
- Proven tourism driving experience (non-negotiable)
- Valid Public Services Driving License (PG)
- Strong defensive and preventive driving skills
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays
- Willingness to undergo in-house training and medical examination

Key Responsibilities
- Transport passengers safely along scheduled and tourism routes
- Ensure passengers arrive at destinations on time
- Register passengers and manage luggage when required
- Inspect the bus daily and record defects in checklists
- Report all deviations, incidents, near misses, and accidents immediately
- Adhere strictly to traffic laws and customer safety management systems (SMS)
- Maintain accurate logbooks and record working hours
- Participate in safety, training, and DSS sessions
- Ensure vehicles are clean, refueled, and maintained
- Comply with Unitrans Passenger rules, driver manuals, and company policies
- Avoid unauthorized route deviations
- Follow all mandatory safety requirements, including:
- Use of seatbelts for all occupants
- Removal of ignition keys after parking
- Wheel chocking after parking
- Starting vehicles only from inside the cabin
