Unitrans is currently recruiting experienced Passenger Bus Drivers to operate scheduled transport services in Rustenburg. The role involves transporting passengers safely along designated routes while maintaining high standards of professionalism, safety, and customer service.

This position is within a restricted commercial contract (non-subsidised), meaning strict adherence to safety regulations and company procedures is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive a bus along scheduled routes, ensuring passengers arrive safely and on time
• Monitor road conditions, traffic signals, and speed limits at all times
• Control bus systems such as lighting, heating, and ventilation for passenger comfort
• Conduct pre-trip inspections and report any defects or deviations
• Record all faults in checklists and report to the Supervisor
• Ensure the bus is clean, fuelled, and well-maintained
• Register passengers and maintain accurate trip records
• Complete logbooks and track driving hours correctly
• Report incidents, near misses, or accidents immediately
• Follow all company procedures, safety standards, and transport regulations
• Participate in safety sessions, training, and compliance programmes
• Maintain discipline by following approved routes and authorised stopping points only

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification
• Valid driver’s licence with the following categories:
  • CE – G / CE – PG / C – G
• Valid PrDP (Professional Driving Permit) with Public Driver (PG) authorisation
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar passenger transport role

• Strong knowledge of defensive and preventative driving techniques
• Excellent understanding of road traffic laws and safety regulations
• High level of responsibility and safety awareness
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
• Strong attention to detail when completing logs and reports

Additional Responsibilities and Compliance

• Adhere to Unitrans passenger transport rules, driver manuals, and safety policies
• Avoid accidents and unsafe driving practices at all costs
• Ensure proper vehicle handling procedures, including:
  • Removing keys after parking
  • Using wheel chocks when required
  • Wearing seatbelts at all times
• Do not deviate from assigned routes unless authorised
• Follow all customer safety management system (SMS) policies
• Report any vehicle damage or operational issues to management
• Ensure passengers are only picked up and dropped off at authorised locations
