Job Overview

Unitrans is seeking to employ professional and experienced Passenger Bus Drivers to transport passengers safely and efficiently on scheduled routes. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring on-time arrivals, maintaining high safety standards, and delivering a professional customer experience in line with Unitrans policies and procedures.

This position operates within a restricted commercial passenger transport environment and is not subsidised by government.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate a passenger bus on scheduled routes in a safe and responsible manner
• Transport passengers to designated destinations while ensuring punctuality
• Observe speed limits, traffic laws, and road conditions at all times
• Control vehicle lighting, heating, and ventilation for passenger comfort
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
• Identify, record, and report any vehicle defects or deviations
• Complete logbooks accurately and maintain records of driving hours
• Register passengers for each trip
• Ensure vehicles are refuelled, clean, and well maintained
• Report incidents, near misses, accidents, or property damage immediately
• Comply with Unitrans Passenger Rules, HST regulations, and company procedures
• Participate in toolbox talks, safety sessions, and required training
• Maintain professional conduct and positive customer interaction
• Follow approved routes and authorised stopping points only
• Ensure seatbelt compliance for driver and passengers
• Safeguard vehicle keys and equipment at all times

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 / National Certificate
• Valid Passenger Bus Driving Licence (CE – G / CE – PG / C – G)
• Valid Public Driving Permit (PG / PrDP)

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar passenger transport role

• Ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict schedules

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Strict adherence to HST, SMS, and Unitrans safety policies
• Zero tolerance for unsafe driving practices
• Mandatory reporting of all incidents and deviations
• Compliance with logbook, RAC2 card, and licence requirements
