Key Performance Areas

Learner Transportation

• Operate a school transport vehicle on prescribed routes according to set schedules
• Pick up and drop off learners at designated stops
• Transport learners and educators on field trips and school-related activities
• Plan routes and stops for off-site activities as required
• Maintain order and discipline of learners in accordance with school policies

General Worker Duties

• Provide general maintenance and facilities support across the school
• Conduct daily facility inspections to ensure proper functionality
• Perform basic maintenance tasks, including minor plumbing and repairs
• Report maintenance issues to the Facilities Manager
• Maintain tools, equipment, and consumables
• Assist with security, access control, and traffic management
• Perform garden maintenance, including lawn care and flowerbed upkeep
• Monitor gardening consumables and equipment requirements

Health & Safety

• Conduct daily safety and operational inspections of the assigned vehicle
• Report mechanical faults and arrange repairs when necessary
• Ensure the vehicle is fuelled, serviced, and roadworthy
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness to support safe operations
• Participate in safety drills, training sessions, and first-aid meetings as required
• Complete safety and inspection reports when requested

Record Keeping

• Accurately complete mileage logs and passenger count reports
• Maintain all required driving and transport documentation

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications & Licences

• Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
• Valid Driver’s Licence (EC1 or C1 – Heavy Motor Vehicle up to 16 000 kg)
• Valid Public Driving Permit (PDP)

Experience & Skills

• Experience driving a school bus or similar vehicle (recommended)
• Fluent in English
• Clear criminal record
• Ability to perform general worker and maintenance duties
• Strong communication skills with learners, parents, and staff
• Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious
• Energetic, responsible, and trustworthy
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to work overtime when required
